Mosadi cautions single women

14 Apr 2019

Kgosi Mosadi Seboko of Balete has warned young women against bearing children before marriage.

The tribal leader made the remarks during GaMalete tribal administration wellness day in Ramotswa on April 12.

She said the trend of bearing children before marriage left some  women with a burden of raising children alone.

Kgosi Mosadi, therefore, encouraged women to jealously guard their bodies to avoid being left with emotional pain.

She stated that even if the father paid the maintenance fee, this did not exonerate the child from missing a dedicated father figure on his or her life.

Kgosi Mosadi said although this was a societal problem, the girl child should act and protect them lest the unfortunate happened to them.

She stated that those who could not afford to abstain should at least use other protective measures to prevent pregnancies.

The Balete royal further encouraged women to avoid at all cost relationships which lead to gender-based violence.

She made an appeal to the community to be on guard against drugs and substance abuse which she said contributed to cases of gender-based violence and mostly affected youth.

However, she expressed appreciation that murder cases between those involved in relationships had gone down in the area.

Nonetheless, she expressed concern that there were still rape cases which could be linked to drugs and alcohol abuse.

A fourth-year media studies student from the University of Botswana, Ms Kefilwe Kilego said the society was faced with many cases of depression, which in some cases could be traced to the absence of a father figure in the children’s upbringing.

She said the scenario in some cases led to excessive abuse of alcohol and drugs as well as a wayward lifestyle.

Therefore, Ms Kilego who was on campaign together with her fellow students to sensitize the fathers about the importance of being present in the lives of their children made an appeal to the fathers to step up and be active in the lives of their children.

President of the Court of Appeal, Kgosi Mothibe Lenchwe called on the wellness committees and their members to up their games and align their strategies to that of VIsion 2036.

Kgosi Linchwe expressed worry that men continued to be silent on prostate cancer yet it had affected many hence he called for strong sensitization of men about the diseases. ENDS
