  Permanent Secretary to the President (PSP) Mr Carter Morupisi has called on district authorities to ensure smooth and peaceful general elections.

Addressing district authorities who comprised of district commissioners, town clerks, council chairpersons and land board secretaries in Gaborone on April 11, Mr Morupisi said the country’s stability rested with them. 

Therefore, he said they should assign accountable election officers and liaise with Independent Electoral Commission to ensure that everything was in place in preparation for national elections.

Regarding President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s  roadmap, Mr Morupisi further charged district authorities to give feedback on the progress, thus saying during cascading of the President’s roadmap, he had tasked the authorities to contribute to the economic drive by creating jobs that would ultimately  improve the people’s lives in the districts they serve. 

Mr Morupisi also urged authorities to evaluate their procurement processes to ensure that there were no irregularities or flouting of procurement rules.

“I also want you to indicate in the report how many cases were brought before courts that involved tendering processes -how many were settled and the challenges thereof,” he said.

Mr Morupisi further asked the district authorities to brand their districts, articulating what their districts are known for such as  mining, agriculture or tourism.

“You may ask professionals to assist you to come up with brands that promote economic activities of your districts in an effort to boost investor confidence,” he said.

He said branding would also inspire public service employees as it would instill a sense of belonging and desire  to participate in the  governments drive to boost the economy.

Mr Morupisi further asked for a detailed report on spouse transfer policy and to articulate the challenges encountered.

“I am appealing to you not to move the employees under the industrial class bracket from areas where they have accommodation. Try to avoid that.

If such officers are not performing, try to find solutions other than transferring them,” he said. ENDS
