Strategies promote urban agriculture

Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security promotes urban agriculture through small-scale projects such as backyard vegetable and fruit gardening, flower production, fish farming, rabbit production, poultry production and beekeeping through its extension service.
Answering a question on behalf of the Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Alfred Madigele said the ministry was currently exploiting the use of recycled water to promote urban agriculture and also continued to identify land that could be used for such undertaking.
He explained that the ministry was currently reviewing the 1991 Agriculture Policy and also developing the National Agriculture Investment Plan, which would guide the development of agriculture sector including urban agriculture in the country, thereafter, guidelines on urban agriculture would be developed.
Francistown East legislator, Mr Buti Billy had asked the minister what strategies were in place to promote urban agriculture in Francistown. ENDS
