No plans to establish office

11 Apr 2019

Government will not consider establishing a water arbitration office since there is already an existing complaints/disputes escalation office in all Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) offices.

Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi said the procedure was that the complaint was received at the customer interface level and there was provision for its resolution up to the CEO.

Mr Moipisi however stated that even if the complaint was not resolved at the CEO’s office, the complaint or dispute could be escalated to the ministry.

He further noted that the ministry through the WUC was already undertaking replacement of brass metres with plastic metres to curb theft experienced with brass meters.

He pointed out that since 2010; WUC replaced 155 140 metres at a cost of P67 492  inclusive of labour.

The assistant minister said that it meant that the suggested initiative by MP for Mochudi East, Mr Moagi Molebatsi was already in place and being implemented.

Mr Molebatsi had asked the assistant minister if the ministry would consider establishing a water arbitration office to handle disputes between the water users and WUC.

The legislator further wanted to know if the ministry would consider replacing the brass meters with plastic ones to curb the theft of brass meters. ENDS
