Khama still Vision 2036 champion

09 Apr 2019

Former President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama is still champion of Vision 2036, Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Nonofo Molefhi has said.

Mr Molefhi was responding to a question in Parliament from Selebi Phikwe West MP, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse.

The minister explained that meant that he continued to play his advisory role as an elder in the Vision Council.

The minister said Dr Khama was appointed through Presidential Directive Cab 31(A)/2017.

“As a champion, he provides credibility and integrity to the work of the Council. He facilitates opening of doors which may not be so accessible,” he said.

The Vision Council, Mr Molefhi said, had been operational for close to 15 months now, and had been busy with setting up its Coordinating Agency, which would serve as its Secretariat and Delivery Unit.

In addition, he said the office facilities were in place with the operating structures taking shape, adding that the coordinator was appointed in February 2018, while the recruitment process of other staff members was ongoing.

“It is believed that during this financial year, the Council will be fully operational,” he added.

Mr Keorapetse wanted an update on the Vision 2036 and the minister to specifically state if former President Khama was still champion and what it meant or entailed, including his specific role.

Selebi Phikwe West MP also wanted to know who in particular appointed him champion. ENDS
