Tropic of Capricorn master plan on cards

09 Apr 2019

There is a master plan for the Tropic of Capricorn Monument, which will be implemented starting this financial year.

Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, Mr Kitso Mokaila said this in response to a question posed by the Member of Parliament for Nkange, Mr Edwin Batshu in Parliament on April 8.

Mr Mokaila mentioned that they had been allocated a three-hectare plot in which developments would take place.

He further explained that during the Christmas holidays, ablutions were placed at the site to test the market, adding that a tender for the provision of facilities by the private sector was being floated until April 26.

Mr Mokaila further said his ministry continued to de-bush and collect litter twice a week and that their custodians were on guard against bad behaviour, adding that a long term solution would be implemented this financial year.

MP Batshu had asked the minister with regard to the popularity of the Tropic of Capricorn Monument to state whether there was a master plan for the area, saying if that was the case, when would it be implemented.

Mr Batshu further wanted to know if the minister was aware that during the Christmas period, there were ablutions placed and why there were none currently.

The minister was also to state whether he did not see that the environment of that area was threatened, if so, when would the ministry correct the situation. ENDS
