Water apportioned according to use
07 Apr 2019
Parliament has learnt that BH192 in Tsonyane was among the boreholes received by the Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services from Department of Water Affairs and local authorities around the country that are used to supply water to the people.
This was said by the Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi when responding to a parliamentary question.
Mr Moipisi said he was not aware of an unceremonious hand over of the said borehole to Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) by the Mabutsane Sub-district Council.
He noted that his ministry was not aware that Tsonyane residents were left without a borehole for their livestock to the extent that some of them lost their livestock.
Assistant Minister Moipisi further indicated that his ministry through Water Apportionment Board (WAB) issues water rights to water users upon application depending on their intended use, one of which is livestock farming.
The ministry does not deal with livestock water supply issues, as that responsibility entirely lies with the livestock owner, he noted.
MP for Kanye South, Mr Abram Kesupile had asked the minister if he was aware that residents of Tsonyane village did not have a borehole for their livestock since it was given away to WUC by Mabutsane Sub-district Council.
He also asked the minister to state how he would settle the matter with the farmers as some of them had lost livestock. ENDS
