Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi has told Parliament that the ministry had employed five people living with albinism and 18 with other forms of disability.
Mr Kgathi was responding to Specially Elected MP, Mr Mephato Reatile, who wanted the minister to state the number of people with disabilities and albinism employed under the ministry and if the number met the country’s target of the UN’s SDG No.8.
Still in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso stated that 126 positions out of 21 889 in her ministry had been filled by people with albinism and other forms of disability.
Ms Tshireletso indicated that 14 were people with albinism while 112 were those with other forms of disability, adding that 46 are females and 80 were males.
She said the number of people employed did not yet meet the country’s target of the UN’s SDG No 8.
Ms Tshireletso stated that Disability Office at the Office of the President was currently working on the development of the National Disability Strategy, Revised National Policy and National Disability Act intended to assist the country in meeting its commitments on disability issues, including striving to meet UN targets.
