Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Machana Shamukuni has confirmed that the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) is investigating money misappropriation for the Botswana Public Officers’ Pension Fund. He, however, said details relating to the case could not be divulged at this stage.

Mr Shamukuni said to do such may compromise and also have the potential to tarnish the integrity of the whole investigation process.

“Take note that Section 44 of the Corruption and Economic Crime Act (CECA) of 1994 prohibits disclosure of information about who is being investigated whilst investigations are still ongoing,” he said.

Member of Parliament for Jwaneng/Mabutsane, Mr Shawn Ntlhaile had asked the assistant minister to update the House on the status of investigations which linked the Permanent Secretary to the President with misappropriation of pensioners’ funds.Ends
