Swimming gala tomorrow

About eight swimming clubs are expected to convene at the University of Botswana swimming pool to compete in the Wimpy Darrell Morton’s School of Swimming (DMSS) Gators Gala 2019, which starts tomorrow until Sunday.

 DMSS Gators committee member,  Thobo Moleko said in an interview that the affliated clubs are Phoenix, Gaborone Aquatics Club, Kubu Swimming Club from Francistown, Orapa Swim Club, UB, BDF Dolphins, Propellers and DMSS Gators.

He said the competition would attract 250 swimmers adding that they had invited other swimmers from Zambia and South Africa but could not make it due to other competitions. 

He explained that the event would be the second swimming gala to be sponsored by DMSS after the 2017 event.

The  2018 swimming gala was sponsored by International Swimming Federation.

Moleko said the objective of the swimming gala was to give swimmers exposure since the competition would be of international standard where there would be  heats and finals.

Additionally, Moleko said competition would give swimmers an opportunity to improve their personal times, which would assist them qualify for future international galas.

He said the tournament would feature top swimmers among others, Andile Bekker, Maxine Egner, Tselane Matthews.

“I am happy that preparations are going well and the public should come in large number to support Botswana swimmers,” he said. ENDS
