Strive for excellence - Tema
02 Apr 2019
North West District Council employees have been urged to improve turnaround times to implement the undertakings government made to the people without delay.
Giving a motivational speech during a stakeholders meeting, the coordinator of Strategy Management from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Wazha Tema said the council had been allocated P400 million for 2019/2020 financial year, which he said was not adequate as per the council request.
He stated that the budget did not include destitution allowance, World War II veterans allowances, purchasing of beef and oil for schools, among others, adding that the council would see how best to utilise the little they had to achieve optimal results.
He urged employees to commit to service the nation with dedication, discipline, integrity, hard work and passion.
“There is no place for complacency, cynicism or excuses in the service of the nation. We must be clear that everything we do in local government must contribute in a direct and meaningful way to the improvement of the lives of our people,” he added.
Mr Tema urged employees to strive for excellence. He said it was important for officers to recognise their roles as they had been called to serve with humility and provide quality service to the community with an aim to transform their lives.
He said political leaders made promises to the community and as public servants, their role was to translate the promises into reality to better the communities’ livelihood, adding that people depended on officers for survival.
Mr Tema pointed out that public servants should exercise professionalism when executing their duties. Customers, he said should be served with Botho at all times. He cautioned against sending the customers from pillar to post.
Public servants were also advised to give feedback to clients as they had been given the necessary resources.
Local government, Mr Tema said, promoted the culture of serving with respect, loyalty, transparency, integrity, honesty, fairness and to shun corrupt practices.
The district commissioner, Mr Keolopile Leipego advised public servants to bring positive change to the community they serve.
“That is your purpose as a government employee to transform the lives of the community through quality service delivery,” he said. ends
