Ministry of Basic Education is aware that Ithuteng Junior Secondary School is the only junior secondary school in Kgatleng District without a multi-purpose hall.
This was said by Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Thato Kwerepe in response to a parliamentary question on March 28.
He said when schools were constructed; the community was tasked to build additional facilities which included a multi-purpose hall.
Mr Kwerepe noted that due to constraints; the multi-purpose hall at Ithuteng was not constructed leading to the anomaly.
In addition, he said the ministry had not yet made provision for the construction of the hall due to financial constraints.
He said the ministry’s current focus remained to address issues of insufficient classroom space and staff housing, adding that the provision of a multi-purpose hall at Ithuteng would be considered together with other projects.
Mochudi West MP, Mr Gilbert Mangole had asked if the ministry was aware that Ithuteng Junior School in Kgatleng District was the only school without a multi-purpose hall.
He also asked the ministry to state reasons for the anomaly and why government had not made provision for its construction.
He also wanted to know whether the ministry was in a position to assure Parliament that funding for construction of facilities would be sourced as a matter of urgency given its need. ENDS
