31 Mar 2019
Senete Primary School in Nkange has been celebrated for excelling in Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) with a 100 per cent pass rate for three consecutive years.
Officiating at the celebration on march 28, Minister of Basic Education, Mr Bagalatia Arone said location should not be a determining factor for best results.
He said with teachers commitment, everything was possible even in the midst of challenges.Mr Arone explained that the basic education ministry was mandated with laying a foundation for pupils which would enable them a better future and ultimately contribute to the growth of the country’s economy.
He said parents as stakeholders expected good results hence usually when such did not happen, teachers were castigated for not doing a good job.
The minister therefore, implored teachers to do their best even when faced with challenged.
He said the results were an indication that the staff had set goals and were determined to work tirelessly to achieve their mission.
“When management sets the tone and open the doors for partnership, it makes it easy to get support and excel in their endeavor,” he said.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the ministry was working on some reforms aimed at improving teaching and learning across all the schools.
The ministry he said was working on decongesting the education curriculum and hoped that some changes would be implemented beginning of next year.
Minister Arone shared that subjects such as Moral and Religious Education might be scrapped out.
Another area the ministry is working on is subject specialisation for upper primary or Standard Four up to Seven.
He thus said teachers should fully understand their mandate as nation builders and commit to their work instead of using challenges as major setback of teaching and learning in schools.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Nkange, Mr Edwin Batshu applauded the school for being the center of excellence for the past three years.
He awarded them P5 000 and the constituency floating trophy which they will keep forever.
The trophy was an initiative by the MP to encourage competition among schools in the constituency and since it is now a property of Senete primary, a new one was launched for schools to compete for in the coming years. ENDS
