Beauty sustains Mauwane

As the beauty industry grows, a number of women have ventured into it to fight unemployment and poverty.
One such woman is 25-year-old Ms Nkganetsang Mauwane of Molepolole, who is not only making a mark in the beauty industry, but is making a living out of it.
In an interview recently, Ms Mauwane said her journey started when she enrolled for a Bachelor of Arts in International Salon Management at the Botswana Accountancy College (BAC), majoring in Beauty Therapy.
She said her passion for beauty therapy grew stronger when she was attached for four months at a beauty spa in Gaborone.
She now specialises in ladies’ facial make-up, manicure and pedicure, in a business she started from her own savings and currently operates from her home.
Ms Mauwane said she was available whenever she was needed, adding that even though she has no workshop, the business is doing well.
Her clients include brides and their entourages, tertiary students, beauty pageant contestants and other individuals.
She said her mission was to deliver a service that leaves the customer with a happy face, as women love to look gorgeous and perfect at all times.
Her intension, she said, was to apply for Youth Development Fund to grow her business as her dream was to own a beauty spa that could create employment for other Batswana youth.
The beautician added that her dream was to franchise for big brands, which she said could help her to be known countrywide and bring her bigger business opportunities.
The Molepolole-born lass said although the business was doing well, there was stiff competition from others, but she separateed herself by marketing her services on social media and attending youth expos.
Another challenge that her business encounters is that make-up kits are sold in shops, making it easy for ladies to purchase them and beautify themselves from their homes.
She pointed out that this kind of business is difficult and it requires patience and renewal of skills for one to survive.
Ms Mauwane encouraged youth to always nurture their talents and use them to sustain their lives, as jobs are hard to come by nowadays.
She further urged them to always be ready to take risks in life, indicating that big brands also started from humble beginnings. Ends
