Official calls on councillors to lead by example

27 Mar 2019

Councillors in Southern District have been urged to promote healthy living among communities.

Addressing a full council meeting recently, Kanye Seventh Day Adventist Hospital superintendent, Dr Brendan Tombs motivated councillors to be examplary by refraining from eating too much red meat and fats, but rather to go for food with fiber and vegetables.

He noted that red meat and processed meat contained carcinogenic properties that could cause cancer.

Dr Tombs said the hospital decided to take Botsogo Pitso services to civic leaders where they could be encouraged to test for ailments such as blood pressure, sugar diabetics and HIV.

He said Botsogo Pitso service registered a huge turn up that  included councillors and government employees.

He, however, highlighted shortage of staff and drug supply as some of the challenges facing the hospital.

Other challenges, Dr Tombs said, were non-emergency medical cases reported after hours, something that he said put unnecessary strain on staff and facilities.

He noted shortage of water supply at the hospital especially at the theatre and the laundry service.

However, he commended Water Utilities Corporation for bowsing water to the hospital.

He appreciated the support which the hospital received from community and the government, easing them the task of providing health care to Kanye and surrounding areas. ENDS
