Bring back value of opportunity
27 Mar 2019
Minister of Transport and Communications, Ms Dorcas Makgato has urged tertiary students, who have been selected to visit the Huawei plant in China, to go there and learn as much as they can.
Speaking at the Huawei Seeds for the future 2019 Award ceremony in Gaborone on March 26, Ms Makgato said the fact that they had been selected means that they were best placed to bring back value of this opportunity to help build Botswana into an internationally competitive nation.
She said they were leaders of tomorrow and therefore should take heed to bring back knowledge that they would receive in China, adding that both their parents and the government were relying on them to do their best
The minister said the programme, which began in 2014, had this time around taken 10 graduates. Four are from the University of Botswana, three from Botswana International University of Science and Technology and three from Botho University respectively.
Minister Makgato described them as seeds that had been planted by their parents, nurtured by the government and now they were taking their journey to the next level as a way to develop the human development ecosystem in motion.
She extended the government’s appreciation to Huawei for extending a hand of partnership to the people of Botswana.
Ms Makgato said winning nations were those that would not only be mere participants in the world technology, but those who would lead in the adoption, use and invention of technology.
She said President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi in affirming the need for Botswana to be among the technology leaders, had entreated Batswana to transform this country’s economy from being resource based to be a knowledge based economy. ends
