Programme improves academic performance
26 Mar 2019
Chief education officer for Good Hope Sub-district, Ms Ruth Matlhape, has hailed The Broadcasters Organisation (TBO) for its impact in the region’s academic performance.
She said since the introduction of TBO in the sub-region early last year, seven out of eight primary schools showed improvement in the Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) .
Speaking at the official opening of TBO regional broadcasting competitions in Mmathethe, Ms Matlhape said she was optimistic that the programme will continue to help improve results as more schools in the sub-region enrol.
Ms Matlhape urged government departments and businesses to unite and play their part in improving the education sector.
For his part, TBO director, Mr Layani Elias, said the general poor academic performance across the country was a national concern, therefore stakeholders should play a role to change the situation.
He said they formed TBO in 2013 with the main objective of collaborating with the education sector to improve school results.
Mr Elias said they piloted the programme in Gaborone, and have since enrolled it over 250 primary schools across the country, with the intention to pilot in 32 secondary schools by the end of this year. ENDS
