Botswana to give neighbours in Cyclone Idai aftermath humanitarian assistance

Government has decided to provide emergency humanitarian relief to the neighbouring countries of Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe affected by Cyclone Idai. 

A press release issued by the Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation explains that the cyclone,  which triggered massive floods and landslides has claimed many lives, left tens of thousands displaced or homeless, and many others missing. It has also caused immense damage to property and infrastructure (roads, communications, bridges and buildings). 

Botswana, the release says, was responding to appeals for support  launched by the three countries in the wake of the disaster.

It says the country intends to provide emergency humanitarian relief assistance to the three countries in the form of water purifying solutions, non-perishable food-stuffs and blankets.

Government further appeals to the public to support its efforts by donating: 

•    Packaged non-perishable goods ready for delivery, with a shelf life of at least 3 months

•    Blankets. 

•    Water purifying solutions.

•    All donations should be new and properly labeled.

The donations should be dropped off from 25 to 26 March for transportation to Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe at the following addresses in Gaborone:
