 Mayor of Jwaneng, Mr Obed Monkge, has appealed to Batswana to support President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi in his ambition of steering Botswana forward.

Giving a word of encouragement to the staff of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC) from Kweneng at official opening of their four-day meeting, Mr Monkge said the support for Dr Masisi was the responsibility of every civil servant and should even come from across the political divide.

“I am speaking as an opposition councillor, but this is an issue of national interest and needs all of us to render him all the necessary support,” he said. 

Mr Monkge also encouraged the MYSC staff to make it a habit to enroll for further education and enhance their skills and knowledge.

He said failure to gain more skills and knowledge especially could land the country in the hands of foreigners. 

He also said leaders were not blind to the fact that civil servants faced challenges such as low pay and lack of suitable accommodation at their areas of operation, but stated that such should not hinder them from striving for good service to the community.

He also said countries such as Japan that were about six times smaller than Botswana were more developed and therefore it was a challenge for Botswana to take advantage of its vast land reserves to diversify its economy.

Mr Monkge further advised the MYSC employees to be dedicated to government initiatives under their control since they had potential to uplifting lives.

Mr Monkge also appreciated the MYSC staff for choosing Jwaneng as a place for their retreat, adding that Jwaneng welcomed any visitor who could add to its economy.

“I am also aware that a few weeks back, you also held your national sports competitions here, and we appreciate your soft spot for this town and urge you to keep it up. This also gives us exposure as a town on top of uplifting the many businesses around,” he said. ENDS
