Gilport Lions registered their sixth defeat of the season after they were defeated by bottom-placed Red Sparks 2 -0 in a Debswana First Division South encounter played at Lekidi on Saturday.

Despite losing their game, Gilport Lions are still perched at the summit of the log with 30 points after playing 18 games, winning nine, drawing eight and losing six.

While Red Sparks have accumulated 24 points after winning five, drawing eight and losing five. They are perched on position seven.

Gilport Lions approached the game with a sense of urgency, and it was clear that their mission was to have an early goal.

In the third minute of the game, they were awarded a penalty but their trusted player Serati Semati failed to convert as it was brilliantly saved by Karabo Ramatlapeng.

However, that did not demoralise Gilport as they looked even more dangerous with Stephen Sibanda distributing beautiful crosses, but they were all put to waste by strikers who lacked discipline in the goal mouth.

The game went into recess with the scoreboard reading 0-0, but after half time the Tlokweng based Red Sparks came back rejuvenated as they pressed Gilport Lions in their own half.

Red Sparks were rewarded for their hard work scoring two quick goals in the 50th and 51st minute courtesy of Mogomotsi Keabaitsi and Othusitse Molako respectively, and the game ended with Red Sparks earning three valuable points.

Red Sparks coach, Bushy Basiatang said he was happy that his players managed to win against the   log leaders.

He said their game plan was to put their opponents under pressure given that Gilport were good in pressure play.

He said Gilport dominated the first half, but that in the second half they managed to outclass their opponents, more especially in the midfield.
