Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Kenneth Matambo is not aware of the Bank of Botswana (BoB) being implicated in facilitating illicit flow of funds from Botswana. He was responding to a question from MP for Jwaneng/Mabutsane, Mr Shawn Ntlhaile in Parliament recently, who had asked if it was true that BoB was implicated in facilitating illicit flow of funds from the country.

Mr Ntlhaile also wanted to know what assessment had been undertaken to launch a forensic audit and if the minister would issue a statement in that regard. However, Minister Matambo explained that he had no basis to launch any forensic audit because he was satisfied that the current statutory governance structures and accountability framework, as set out in the Bank of Botswana Act (Cap 55:01) and the Bank’s Bye Laws, were robust and adequate.
