Psychologists employment not mandatory
21 Mar 2019
The Minister of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development Mr Tshenolo Mabeo says his ministry is not considering to make it mandatory for commercial businesses to employ psychologists for the purpose of addressing social, financial and psychological issues of workers.
Mr Mabeo was answering a question from the Member of Parliament for Francistown East Mr Billy Buti who asked whether the ministry was not considering making it mandatory for commercial businesses to employ psychologists to address social, financial and psychological issues of the workers by absorbing unemployed psychologists roaming the streets.
Mr Mabeo said the employment act did not empower the ministry to impose such business decisions on business undertaking as the decision would bring about additional personnel costs to businesses and may have a negative impact on their viability. He said such a decision would be regarded as government interference in the private market. ENDS
