Parliament has learnt that Police Commissioner’s salary has been upgraded from F1 to F0 with effect from April 1, 2019. This is according to  Circular No.2 of 2019 dated March 14, 2019.

Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Machana Shamukuni, said this in Parliament on March 19 on behalf of the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi.

Mr Shamukuni, however, said Circular No.1of 2019 dated March 14, 2019 on adjustment of salaries of the Botswana Defence Force had upgraded the BDF Commander from F0 to the Grade of Resident Judge of the Court of Appeal.

He explained that the BDF Commander was still graded higher than the Commissioner of Police given the reasons that the grading of the two positions were historical and based on decisions of the Job Evaluation upper panel, whom in their consideration of the respective responsibilities of the two positions determined that the remuneration of the two positions should be differentiated since the responsibilities and functions were different.

MP for Nkange, Mr Edwin Batshu had wanted to know why the Commander of BDF was remunerated at FO salary scale while the Commissioner of Police with such enormous responsibility was remunerated at F1 salary scale. ENDS
