21 Mar 2019

The project for upgrading the 6.3 kilometre Jwaneng-Sese gravel road to bitumen standard never commenced after being awarded.

It it was cancelled due to the recession experienced by the country then.

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse, said this when responding to a question in Parliament from Jwaneng-Mabutsane MP, Mr Shawn Ntlhaile.

The total amount allocated to the project, Mr Autlwetse said, was more than P15.6 million and P4.5 million was set aside to commence the project.

“However, the project was deferred due to recession,” he added.Since the link road in question was part of the road networks that were transferred through Presidential Directive CAB 32(B)/2010 to the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the assistant minister said his ministry did not take any steps to reinstate the road construction project.

MP Ntlhaile had asked Mr Autlwetse to update Parliament on the status of the contract concluded in 2008 for upgrading the 6.3 km Jwaneng-Sese gravel road to bitumen standard.

Furthermore, Jwaneng-Mabutsane MP also wanted the assistant minister to state the planned commencement and completion dates, total amount allocated, name and address of the company awarded the tender and steps taken to reinstate the road construction project. ENDS
