NGO donates to Gabamochaa residents
20 Mar 2019
Elephant Havens Wildlife Foundation has donated goods worth P10 000 to residents of Gabamochaa settlement near Shorobe as part of the corporate social responsibility.
Elephant Havens is a non-government organisation that protects orphaned elephants so that they benefit all Batswana and also assist in improving the livelihoods of the community they operate within.
The goods donated included clothes, school bags and toys among others.
The founder of the organisation, Mr Boago Poloko explained that the donation was a way of giving back to the community they work within.
He said the donation would also strengthen their collaboration with the community as they would come on board and support the organisation to achieve its mandate.
The organisation, he said, was established in 2017 with the aim of working closely with the community.
He stated that the donation was a special gift from their international friend who paid a visit to them with other 12 tourists and they found it fit to leave a mark by donating something to the community.
Mr Poloko indicated that they were planning to donate annually.
The organisation also intends to mobilise the community to do cluster fencing at their fields and also assist with electric fence to chase away elephants, which damage crops.
“This is the beginning of our productive journey with the community as we have a lot to offer as a way of empowering them,” he added.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the community, the area councillor, Mr Oabile Chombo thanked the organisation for their noble gesture.
He said the donation would indeed strengthen the relationship between the NGO and the community.
He also thanked the donors for demonstrating love towards the community.
Mr Chombo emphasised the need for the community to support all the NGOs operating within their locality, adding that eventually they would create employment opportunities for them and also play a role in community activities. Ends
