Centre detains 805 illegal immigrants

Parliament has learnt that about 805 illegal immigrants were detained at the Francistown Centre for illegal immigrants for a period exceeding a month in the past five years.
The Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Machana Shamukuni said this in Parliament on March 19, on behalf of the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security. Answering a question from the specially elected Member of Parliament, Mr Mephato Reatile, the assistant minister said the centre had 42 illegal immigrants from Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He said there were 175 females, 373 males and 257 children.Mr Reatile had asked the minister to state how many illegal immigrants had been detained at the Francistown centre for illegal immigrants for a period exceeding a month in the past five years, as well as state which countries they were from and how many were females and children.
