Tafic Wanderers fight for promotion

19 Mar 2019

The race to gain automatic qualification to the BTC Premiership league between Tafic and Morupule Wanderers is heating up.

With Sua Flamingoes at 36 points, all eyes will be on Tafic and Morupule Wanderers to fight to it out for the one automatic promotion spot.

This past weekend, Morupule Wanderers extended their stay on top of the league by thrashing Selebi-Phikwe based Nico United 2-1, courtesy of Gosaitse Manuel and Comfort Dikupa while Nico had Lesego Thapelo to thank for their solitary goal.

Second-placed Tafic, on the other hand, ensured they emerged victorious on March 17 by beating 11th placed Palapye All-Stars 1-0 through a wonderful goal by Kemoreng Batisani.

Wanderers ensured they continued leading the log with 46 points while Tafic is breathing heavily on their back with 45 points.

Wanderers have talented and experienced players in the likes of Master Masitara, Kelapile Terata and Tshepo Baipoledi.

The two teams have been separated by a point since March 16 when the Oris Radipotsane led Wanderers beat Sua Flamingoes 2-0 at the Sowa Town Council Stadium.

After the victory, they surpassed Tafic to climb to the top of the logs. Matjimenyenga boys, as Tafic is famously known, had to beat Serowe based Green Lovers the following day, but things  didn’t go as planned as they were stunned 2-1 by Green Lovers.

Since then, the race between the two sides has had first division north lovers talking.

Ever since switching log positions between the two nemeses, none of the two teams has lost a game.

Wandy Wandy, as Wanderers is often called by its supporters, have been unstoppable in their campaign to rise to the prestigious top league since notching the top spot.

They beat Green Lovers 3-1 on March 2, hammered Great North Tigers by the same score on March 6 and narrowly beat league rookies, Eleven Angels 2-1 on March 9.

The Elias Chinyemba led Tafic has also been on a winning streak since losing the league summit spot.

They beat Nico United 4-2 on March 2, eased past Eleven Angel with a 1-0 victory on March 6 and loaded more woes on relegation threatened Real Movers by winning 1-0.

With the likes of Uyapo Thibathuwe, Kemoreng Batisani and Gobonyeone Selefa, the Francistown based side are well on their way to give Wanderers a run for their money.

Both teams are now left with four games before the FDN league ends. The log leaders are left with Real Movers, Palapye All-Stars, Calendar Stars and Motlakase Power Dynamos.

Tafic on the other hand are left with Calendar Stars, Motlakase Power Dynamos, Francistown City Greens and Great North Tigers.

In an interview after their victory against Real Movers, Tafic’s assistant coach, Lovemore Mokgweetsi stated that despite playing catch-up game against Wanderers, their plan was to stay in pursuit and not lose their remaining games.

As for Radipotsane, he made his intentions clear after his side defeated Eleven Angels in their second leg game.

“Our intention is to gain league promotion,” Radipotsane had said, and so far his plan seems to be bearing fruit. ENDS
