Beneficiaries owe SHHA over P3 million

Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA) official, Ms Ruth Ramontshonyana says beneficiaries of Self Help Housing Agency (SHHA), home improvement and turnkey houses in her area of jurisdiction owe the council P3.2 million as of last month.

Speaking March 12, during a consultative kgotla meeting in Kanye she expressed concern over defaulters of the scheme, and regretted that only a few repay loans without being followed.

Therefore as part of the strategy to recover loans, KAA is undertaking house to house visitation and doing phone calls to compel compliance.

She explained that some beneficiaries often take advantage of transfer of officers to falsify their new contacts and locations.

She pleaded with residents to assist locate and encourage beneficiaries to repay so that others can also benefit.

Meanwhile, Kanye Main Clinic matron, Ms Thuso Moreki complained about parents who neglect medical pleas to bring forth children afflicted by malnutrition.

She said some parents often come up with excuses for not bringing children for assistance at the clinics.

She said through assistance of Ministry of Health and Wellness, 50 malnourished under fives had been identified and P120 000 had been availed to arrest the situation.

She said malnourished children were vulnerable to diseases related to nutrition.

She pleaded with residents to identify affected children and report to officials for appropriate action to be taken against parents or care takers for neglecting welfare of minors.

For his part, KAA bye-law enforcement assistant, Mr Mothusi Thari said livestock roaming the village and liquor outlets violating operating hours were a cause for concern.

Tsopye ward residents also complained about poor state of internal roads, water shortage, and delays in Poverty Eradication programme assistance.

Nyorosi East councillor, Mr Kagisanyo Tau informed residents that the North-South Carrier water project expected to be complete in June will address water woes in their location.

He expressed concern over individuals who steal water tanks used as temporary reservoirs to supply water to residents.

He urged those who were still to register to utilise new supplementary registration dates so to be able to participate in the coming 2019 general elections. Ends
