Ministry assesses monitors WUC performance

18 Mar 2019

The Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services does not have plans to carry out a financial audit at the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), parliament has been told.

Answering a parliamentary question in the National Assembly on March 14, the Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi said his “ministry does not see any financial alarm that would justify such an audit.”

“My ministry is continuously assessing and monitoring the performance of WUC as mandated to provide potable water and wastewater management services to the populace of Botswana.

As per the latest annual report, there is no financial alarm to justify financial forensic audit at the corporation,” Mr Moipisi said.

He further said regular sessions between the corporation and the ministry had not suggested any indication of an area that required financial audit.

“As a result, my ministry currently has no intention to undertake such.

However, my ministry is open to consider any justification that would qualify such an audit,” Mr Moipisi said.

This was in response to a question posed by the Member of Parliament for Mochudi East, Mr Moagi Molebatsi who had asked if the minister would consider carrying out a financial forensic audit at WUC. ENDS
