17 Mar 2019
Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Thato Kwerepe says he is not aware that the Out of School Education and Training Department (OSET) in Francistown abuses teachers.
In response to a question in Parliament recently, Mr Kwerepe said he was also not aware of any OSET Part-Time Adult Educator who was owed monies for five months. He stated that he was aware that there were many instances when officers were paid late ‘which is regrettable’.
In addition, he said, they had an outstanding query from one officer who submitted inaccurate details pertaining to the hours worked in June 2018 and could not be paid.
Mr Kwerepe stated that the ministry had since investigated and subsequently resolved the issue of hours worked by the officer. He however promised that the officer would be paid for those hours worked in June 2018 in her March 2019 payment. Francistown-East lawmaker, Mr Buti Billy had asked the minister if he was aware that OSET in Francistown abused their teachers.
Mr Billy further asked the minister if he was also aware that one of the teachers had not been paid for five months; August, September, October, November 2017 and June 2018, and wanted him to state how he intended resolving the above matter. ENDS
