No plans to upgrade Mmamorontshe road
17 Mar 2019
The gravel road connecting the bridge at Mmamorontshe River is a low volume traffic road which is accessed by farmers in the vicinity and currently there are no plans to upgrade it.
Minister of Transport and Communications, Ms Dorcas Makgato told Parliament that should resources become available the road may be considered with other similar roads across the country. She said maintenance of the road was achieved through dry grading twice a year by the Roads Department in-house teams.
Minister Makgato said she was aware of the bridge which was constructed across the Mmamorontshe River along the Serowe-Mmabahumi veterinary gate road, but was not aware of information to the effect that no road was ever built to connect it to the bridge.
She was responding to a question from Serowe South MP Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi, who asked the minister if she was aware that a bridge was constructed on the Mmamorontshe River more than 15 years ago and no road was ever built to connect to that bridge.Dr Venson-Moitoi asked the minister to state when funds would be available to build the road in order to open up the area as it was a major commercial farming area.ENDS
