Rollers wallop Gunners

Township Rollers on March 16 came from behind to wallop Extension Gunners by four goals to one during a BTC Premiership game played at the National Stadium.

The goals scored by two Popa veterans ensured that their team stays at the top of the log by four points from another title contender in Jwaneng Galaxy.

It was Gunners who opened the score line through a Mmoloki Kebalepile penalty in the first few minutes of the match, and the vistors hanged on to the lead until the half time break.

Rudolph Zapata’s boys however came back from the break with a positive attitude, shrugging off negative energy and frustrations visible during the first stanza of the game, and took the game to their opponents through Motshegetsi Sikele, who tormented the Gunners defence.

Their efforts were rewarded just under five minutes when veteran striker Joel Mogorosi pounced on a loose ball to level matters thanks to poor marking of the Gunners rear guard.

Panic gripped Gunners camp and it saw Kamogelo Matsabu clinically converting a cross from Sikele’s, and ‘Popa’ who were now confidently controlling the game from all quarters tormented Gunners defenders.

Following striker Kudzanani Machadzani red carded for a rough tackle on Sikele and a forced substitution of goalkeeper Katlego Mbise, Pontsho Moloi’s boys found the going tough as they failed to connect passes.

Lemponye Tshireletso registered his name on the score sheet and moments later Sikele put a final nail on Gunners coffin making it four for one in favour of Popa.

Lobatse based Gunners now has to fight for a space into the top eight bracket which eluded them last season while on the other hand Popa are happy to have rejuvenated dreams to add silverware into their cabinet after failing to make it into the Mascom Top 8 final. ENDS
