Government does not have any immediate plans to renovate Selepa, Donga and Setlalekgosi junior secondary schools, Minister of Basic Education, Mr Bagalatia Arone has told Parliament.

Mr Arone said the ministry was in the process of constructing a new school at Donga Junior Secondary School.

He revealed that his ministry had decided to improve responsiveness to needs and empower school heads through decentralised funding for school maintenance.

He further said that the monies that were allocated for general maintenance to these schools annually in the past two years ranged between P300 000 and P800 000.

The minister said the schools would receive additional funds in April and using local contractors to renovate and maintain their schools.

Member of Parliament for Francistown East, Mr Buti Billy had asked the minister whether there were any plans to renovate Selepa, Donga and Setlalekgosi junior secondary schools, and if not, what was being done to address the challenges of the dilapidated schools. ENDS
