Recruitment ongoing at Mmea
13 Mar 2019
Parliament has been informed that recruitment was ongoing at Mmea Primary School for the posts of deputy school head and head of learning difficulties department.
Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation, Dr Unity Dow said this on behalf of Minister of Basic Education.
Dr Dow said the school had been without a deputy school head for two years while the head of Department of Learning Difficulties post fell vacant on November 28, last year.
The minister stated that two teachers were transferred to Mmea Primary School, both on promotion, one as a senior teacher, Mathematics and Science, the other as deputy school head. She stated that currently the school has two vacancies.
Dr Dow explained that senior teacher for Mathematics and Science reported for duty on February 6, 2019 while the deputy school head was re-directed to the north east region on January 23, 2019 due to social challenges.
She said it was not true that a Mathematics and Science teacher who was transferred in 2016 had not been replaced to date.
Member of Parliament for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister to update Parliament on the status of teachers transferred to Mmea Primary School including existing vacancies.
The lawmaker had wanted the minister to state whether the transferred teachers had reported for duty, and if not, why.
MP Lelatisitswe further asked if it was true that a Mathematics and Science teacher who was transferred in 2016 had not been replaced to date, and how it had affected the school.
He also wanted to know if the minister was aware that the school had been without a head of department since 2014 and deputy school head for the past two years. ENDS
