Meepong Junior Secondary School has been commended for the outstanding performance in the 2018 Junior Certificate Examinations (JCE).

The school attained position two nationally and position one in the Selebi Phikwe Sub-region, with a pass rate of 73.91 per cent, beating the national target of 65 per cent. Speaking during the school’s achievement celebration in Selebi Phikwe recently, the school head, Ms Dorcus Olebile said the school worked hard to reach position two.

She said the school had set itself 80 per cent target, which was far above the national one, adding that the performance of the school showed that the school was not far from reaching their aim.

She informed parents that the school had consistently been one of the best performing schools in Botswana since its establishment in 1984.

She however said that the school experienced the lowest pass mark in 2016 when Selebi Phikwe was hit by the BCL Mine closure.

She said they however did not just sit back and relax, instead they evaluated their strategies and processes, which had since given them positive results, and ‘it is not by luck or by chance, that we are consistently achieving excellent results’.

She also attributed the outstanding performance to the good working relationship between parents and teachers.

She commended Meepong staff for making Selebi Phikwe proud regardless of the situation in the town.

Barcelos Selebi Phikwe managing director Ms Sandra Hughes commended the school for a job well done.

She said Meepong continued to do well regardless of challenges by enabling learners to compete in the world of technological advancement.

She said by awarding pupils and teachers who performed exceptionally well, meant that the school  recognised hard work, which should also stimulate learners’ desire to excel in all aspects of life.

Ms Hughes added that educating a child was enlightening the whole nation, adding that it was through education that Botswana had developed to her highest level.

She also applauded the school for having retained quality results consistently in the National JCE results for the past six years.
