Chief Executive Officer of National Development Bank (NDB), Ms Lorato Morapedi says excellence and creativity are key guides in improving the country’s economy.
Speaking during the 2019 Kgatleng Regional Education Excellence Awards ceremony at Molefi Senior Secondary School in Mochudi recently, Ms Morapedi said excellence, coupled with creativity, could be used as an essential tool in all departments as it may lead to modern developments.
She said the theme: Empowering Creativity and Excellence and the Ministry of Basic Education’s value of excellence, show determination by leaders to reach international standards.
She said NDB also believes in excellence as it also encourages its employees to do that which is beyond ordinary to compete with other banks.
Ms Morapedi said for one to achieve their goals, they ought to work extra hard and urged students to stay focused on their studies to achieve their goals.
She said it is not a question of lack, but rather a matter of determination on what they want to achieve and working hard to achieve it.
She said excellence awards were meant to motivate those who were doing their best to keep on delivering good results and also to challenge those who did not receive awards to work harder.
Ms Morapedi encouraged teachers and parents to be patient with learners and for children to remain dedicated to their studies. She said leaders should be motivated even through challenges to bring forth good results and also make excellence contagious.
Kgatleng Education regional director, Mr Kereng Koko expressed hope that the awards would mean excellence to those who received them.
He stressed the importance of appreciating excellence as it was hard to find, adding that resilience was what one needed to break the shackles of restraint.
Mr Koko mentioned that leaders should pitch high standards for learners so that they compete internationally, as lowering standards would only lead to recession as there would not be any competition, but rather comfort for those at the top.
The Junior Certificate best overall performer in the region, who is a former Kgamanyane Junior Secondary School pupil, Margaret Sakeng, thanked her parents and teachers for encouraging her all the time.
She said she was impressed with her results and hopeful that she would maintain her results at the senior school to achieve her goals.
She encouraged fellow pupils not to give up, but rather remain focused on their studies knowing well that there was a light at the end of the tunnel. ENDS
