Payment of worker not resolved

12 Mar 2019

The dispute pertaining to the payment of workers compensation to the retired employee of Kgalagadi Breweries Limited (KBL) is not yet resolved. Minister of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo said KBL management had indicated that the insurance company was still disputing the workers compensation claim on the basis that the injury did not incapacitate the worker to the extent that he was unable to work and earn full wages as per Section 11 (2) (a).

He said his ministry played the role of facilitator in the workers compensation cases, adding that “where there is a dispute, it is incumbent upon the employee concerned to take up the matter within the dispute resolution system, including the court of law.” Member of Parliament for Ramotswa, Mr Samuel Rantuana had asked the progress on the consultation of the ministry with KBL concerning the interpretation of Worker’s Compensation Act, and the pending payment of KBL retired employees and what steps would be taken by the ministry if KBL refused to pay their employees. ends
