Gare calls for recognition ageing population

Moshupa/Manyana MP, Mr Karabo Gare, has implored Batswana to recognise the ageing population.

Speaking at the occasion of elderly people’s wellness in Moshupa recently, he said it was vital to recognise the ageing population because they made tremendous developments that the coming generation was building on to take the country to another level.

He said Botswana was a beacon of democracy due to the contributions they made to preserve peace and tranquility.

He said University of Botswana was a living testimony of some of the developments that the elderly people contributed, adding they were donating cattle to ensure success story of the institution.

Mr Gare said there was nothing that the nation could do without elderly people because they were mobile and living libraries of which we needed to tap into their experience to move the country forward.

He challenged children to take care of parents thus they should ensure paternities access health services, food and all they need to live a quality life.

Mr Gare said it could be embarrassing to wait for expensive funerals as a way of showing love for the parent while children were not taking care of them. 

He also commended Leading Age Foundation and all who contributed to the success of the event, emphatically pointing God will bless them.

Kgosi Oscar Mosielele of Moshupa thanked the Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane for gracing the event despite his busy schedule and said it is vital to test for diseases and access health services. 

He challenged attendants to apply message of the day in their daily lives.

The event comprised testing for various diseases from diabetes, blood pressure, dermatitis, heart diseases and eye testing, among others. ENDS
