Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, through the Central District Council, is currently doing asphalt overlay of worst affected areas along the A1 road within Mahalapye and spot improvements of other internal roads using the recurrent budget.

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse said he was aware that Mahalapye internal roads were dilapidated, but that the ministry was not able to resurface the entire road network due to limited financial budget allocation.

He noted that there were no plans to reconstruct culverts on internal roads because of budgetary constraints.

He stated that in the meantime the ministry through CDC was continuously desilting the existing culverts to facilitate storm water flow/drainage.

MP for Mahalapye West, Mr Joseph Molefhe had asked if the ministry was aware that internal tarred roads at Mahalapye were dilapidated.

He also wanted to know when the internal roads would be resurfaced and when overlaying culverts on internal roads would be reconstructed. ENDS
