Commission sensitises on GBV
10 Mar 2019
Since its establishment in 2016, the National Gender Commission has sensitised the faith based sector in the southern and northern region in June and September, 2018 respectively on gender mainstreaming and women’s empowerment as well as the need to address Gender Based Violence (GBV).
Minister of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Mr Ngaka Ngaka said the commission continued to undertake outreach for sensitisation and awareness raising across the country and had engaged the communities in February and March 2018.
Mr Ngaka said the National Gender Commission was faced with challenges of some gender committees which were not fully functional on mainstreaming gender.
He said the ministry had commenced the exercise of resuscitating district gender committees.
“So far two district committees have been resuscitated and the plan is in place to complete the remaining ones in the coming financial year,” he said.
MP for Nkange, Mr Edwin Batshu wanted the minister to state the performance of the National Gender Commission since its inception, highlighting successes and challenges, including measures in place to address current challenges. ENDS
