Jwaneng District Health Management Team (DHMT) acting head, Dr Muteba Evariste has appealed for civic leaders and community support in the upcoming fifth Botswana AIDS Impact Survey (BIAS V).
Briefing Jwaneng Town councillors last week, Dr Evariste said the survey, which is expected to be launched towards the end of the month, would include Tuberculosis (TB) prevalence in the country.
“The previous surveys were only for HIV/AIDS, but this one will also extend to TB, focusing on pulmonary TB,” he said.
He said the combined survey sought to establish the distribution of HIV/AIDS by various parametres such as sex and age, among others.
He also noted that it would include the availability of HIV services, HIV related risk behaviours as well as TB related symptoms.
Furthermore, Dr Evariste said the research was a big activity that would require more personnel with radiographers and doctors complementing the teams.
“Since it is a combined survey it will need more staff. We will need around 24 enumerators with their supervisors per team to go around each household,” he explained. ENDS
