Ministry of Transport and Communications engineers have been told that they hold the key to the ministry’s success.
The minister, Ms Dorcus Makgato, who was speaking in a key stakeholders meeting, as experts who decided on developments, it was paramount that they carried out their duties with due care and delivered services in a smart way.
Urging the engineers to always apply their knowledge, she pointed out that the kind of work they were doing contributed to determining the success of the country.
Minister Makgato cautioned employees to avoid incidences which could result in litigation as that soiled the reputation of the ministry.
She advised them to be wary of corrupt practices, adding that there was need for a clean-up strategy to revive the gains of the ministry.
“Beware of cost overruns at they negatively impact on government coffers,” she said.
Ms Makgato said with the competent staff that the ministry boasted of, there was no doubt the ministry should be doing well.
On other issues, she advised officers to heed the call to register their professional bodies with immediate effect to avoid losing their jobs.
She said failure to register meant that they were commiting fraud.
Ms Makgato, who assumed headship of the ministry in December, pledged support to the staff and implored them to work as a team. Ends
