Moeng College to pilot multiple pathways
05 Mar 2019
Only Moeng College in the Central District will pilot multiple pathways in 2020, Central District Council chairperson, Mr Peter Williams has said.
Appraising councillors on the state of the district during the opening of a full council meeting on Monday, Mr Williams said Moeng College and Letlhakane Senior Secondary School were initially targeted to pilot multiple pathways under the education and training sector strategic plan (ETSSP).
However, he said only Moeng College would pilot the project, and that “a regional implementing committee has been set. He added that “five teachers from the district have been trained as trainers of trainers to roll out the programme in the district.”
On other education matters, the chairperson revealed that although without authoritative information, the Form Four selection process had been completed.
He also informed councillors that 14 443 pupils were admitted into Form One in 2019 compared to 14 260 in 2017.
Mr Williams noted that there were 196 primary schools and a satellite school in Letoreng which offered reception classes in his jurisdiction compared to 189 in 2018.
“This translates to 9 923 pupils in 2019 as compared to 9 207 pupils in 2018,” said Mr Williams.
Although there was an increase of 716 in the uptake of reception classes by various primary schools, Mr Wiliams complained of shortage of classroom space which he said frustrated the efforts of the programme.
As a remedy, Mr Williams said his council would continuously engage and dialogue with all stakeholders including private-public partnerships to provide extra space. ENDS
