Lesedi new SAA chairperson
05 Mar 2019
Mr Leepetswe Lesedi has been voted chairperson of Serowe Administrative Authority (SAA) Subordinate Council following the ousting of Mr Mpho Kooreme through a motion of no confidence February 25.
Mr Lesedi comes at a time when SAA vice chairperson, Mr Atamelang Thaga has been acting until the election of the new chairperson, March 4.
Mr Thaga remains the vice chairperson.
In a post-election interview on the sidelines, SAA new chairperson said that his mandate was to enhance a smooth working relationship between the political and the administrative wing for a successful implementation and completion of projects in his jurisdiction.
He said that during his election, he was the only nominated candidate and he accepted the responsibilities bestowed upon him by his fellow councillors.
Prior to the election, Central District Council chairperson, Mr Peter Williams adjourned the council to allow SAA councillors to elect their chairperson before CDC normal business could resume in earnest.
He cited that council business could not resume when SAA did not have a substantive chairperson.
In ousting Mr Kooreme from the chair the mover of the motion, nominated councillor Mr Gaotilwe Omphile had cited that the then chairperson lacked consultation among a plethora of reasons, some of which could not be shared with the media at the time.
He was supported by another nominated councillor, Mr Kaisara Mfila. ENDS
