Mini stadium date extends to April 22

05 Mar 2019

The date of completion of Ghanzi mini stadium was extended to April 22, following a request by the contractor.

Answering a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele, said progress as at February 28 stood at 40 per cent.

He explained that the works were mainly on the perimeter wall, which was phase one of the project and were scheduled to be completed on December 14 last year.

Despite the extension, he said, no additional costs had been realised since the contractor was expected to complete the project according to the agreed contract sum.

He said the extension of the time for completion of the perimeter wall was mainly due to existence of a hard rock that was encountered during the trenching process which took time to resolve.

In addition, Mr Makgalemele said completion of the architectural drawing by the council took longer than expected, adding that the implementing agency for the project was the Ghanzi District Council.

“I wish to assure the Honorable member that my ministry, as a key stakeholder, remains committed to the project and will work with all the stakeholders to ensure successful completion of the project,” he said.

Ghanzi North legislator, Mr Noah Salakae had wanted the minister to state in percentage terms, progress of the Ghanzi mini-stadium and the cost implications, and cause of the delay in completing the project on time. ENDS
