Recognition of excellence enhance staff satisfaction

04 Mar 2019

Kweneng District Council (KDC) and tribal administration staff members have been commended for upholding the spirit of celebrating excellence.

Giving a keynote address during the annual awards ceremony for the two entities, the deputy director, Public Service Management Mr Molefi Keaja, said this was a clear indication of the commitment to cost containment by the district leadership.

The annual staff awards were held under theme, ‘Recognition: A catalyst of Excellence’.

Mr Keaja said the theme should be a good reminder of the importance of recognising staff, to ensure that they have the desire and the motivation to pursue excellence in their various roles.

“I wish to commend and applaud the leadership of KDC and tribal administration for this noble initiative of combining the staff awards for their respective organisations, this is the kind of gesture I wish other districts and departments could emulate,” he said.

He said excellence should be a goal to be pursued and be achieved with proper attitudes, adding that such would in turn enhance accountability and responsiveness to the demands of customers and stakeholders.

“I think you will agree with me that our stakeholders and customers are increasingly becoming aware of their rights and therefore service delivery is no longer an issue of begging, they demand quality service,” said Mr Keaja.

He said it was only logical to achieve their mandate with the limited resources at their disposal amidst increasing public demands.

“Challenges we face in our daily tasks should not discourage us from focusing on governance. I also want to appreciate the fact that KDC is the only council, amongst the 16, which it is International Standard Organisation (ISO) certified, I want to commend Ms Marobela and BOBS for the support they are rendering to Kweneng District Council, upgrading to upper level of ISO is not easy,” he said.

Mr Keaja appreciated awardees for going the extra mile and for their hard work, saying the awards showed them that they were appreciated and recognised for exceptionally carrying out government’s mandate.

“I want to encourage those receiving awards to keep up the good work, they should not despair and be demoralised at any point, and also I want to thank those who did not manage to receive awards, they might not have been nominated, but they also play an exceptional part, hence the need to applaud their efforts,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shadishadi Primary School matron, Ms Mpule Kgosiang, who won two awards for best performer and best change agent, said she was grateful for the awards, saying they had made her aware that the council recognised her work.

“I am very happy for these awards. I am now much inspired and motivated to continue working hard in my duties. I want to thank my colleagues for their support and cooperation,” she said. ENDS
