Government believes in independent judiciary - Tsogwane

03 Mar 2019

The Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, has informed Makalamabedi residents that government believes in an independent judiciary.

Mr Tsogwane said this during a kgotla meeting he addressed in Makalamabedi in his Boteti West constituency, stating that everyone was innocent until proven guilty by the courts of law.

Government, he said, was against corruption and no one was above the law, emphasising that everyone was expected to obey the rule of law.

Mr Tsogwane stated that all law enforcing departments should discharge their duties without fear or favour.

The economy, he said, was dependent on tax revenues as well as foreign exchange, noting that the mandate of Botswana Unified Revenue Services was to fight corruption.

A wildlife report, he said, had been released and would be assessed and cabinet would advise accordingly.

Furthermore, he indicated that government had partnered with United Nations Development Programme to review and establish why Economic Diversification Drive was failing to materialise.

Giving a Village Development Committee report Mr Letsogile Jane requested that Makalamabedi-Motopi road be tarred, provision of transport for police officers and accommodation for teachers and agricultural demonstrator.

He also complained that Baipidi Primary School has 15 teachers and only nine staff houses were available. Ends
