03 Mar 2019

Sedie Junior Secondary School in partnership with Oxley College in Australia have awarded teachers in an effort to appreciate and encourage hard work in the workplace.

The awards followed an agreement by the two institutions to recognise teachers and pupils  hard work every year.

Speaking during the dinner, school head, Ms Senatla Mokobela said the school leadership, Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and Oxley College from Australia have decided to host awards for pupils and teachers every year.

Ms Mokobela said the awards were aimed to encourage hard work among pupils and teachers, and that it was also a way of appreciating their achievements and dedication.

“We will continue to celebrate our achievements and recognise those who do well as a way of building healthy strong culture of competition among pupils and teachers for the betterment of our school,’’ she added. In 2017, Oxley College supported the initiative with P17 000 while last year the college channeled P21 000 towards the success of the event. In addition, she said since the inception of the initiative, they had observed improvement academically as the school maintained its pass rate.

She cited subjects such as Mathematics and Science and encouraged teachers to continue doing their best, saying the subjects were key to a knowledge-based economy.

Mathematics and Science teachers, Mr Baitse Maphane and Mr Bofelo Kedikilwe acknowledged the support accorded by the school management.

But, Mr Maphane said they still experienced shortage of resources such as books. He wished the private sector could step in to augment government efforts in enhancing quality education. ends
