28 Feb 2019
Tawana Land Board has been implored to intensify efforts to service land.
Batawana regent, Kgosi Kealetile Moremi, said this at the annual land board staff awards ceremony on February 26.
Kgosi Moremi said sub-land boards under Tawana Land Board had various challenges in availing land to the public.
She said some of the challenges included strategic environmental assessment for settlement expansion areas.
Kgosi Moremi therefore implored the land board officials to liaise with local government authorities to request a waiver from the Department of Environmental Affairs so as to be able to allocate land to the public.
She requested the land board to monitor land utilisation plans to avoid disadvantaging communities.
She cited the Okavango Management Plan, Ngamiland Integrated Land Use plan and the settlement development plans, which she said were done with intentions of protecting natural resources.
Kgosi Moremi, therefore, said the land board should ensure proper implementation of the plans with the limited land servicing resources they had.
Furthermore, Kgosi Moremi encouraged people left behind in the land registration exercise to do so, to help in having a database for all plots.
She commended Tawana Land Board staff who received prizes on various categories for excellent service delivery. She said the civil service was the driving force for government policies.
Kgosi Moremi said diligent service delivery was key in attracting investors.
In his remarks, Tawana Land Board chairperson, Mr Emanuel Dube, said innovative approach in service delivery was paramount since government experienced challenges of limited resources.
Mr Dube said the awards were meant to celebrate employees who were committed to excellent service delivery in the six sub-land boards that made Tawana Land Board.
