Wildebeests move to Khutse

26 Feb 2019

Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo says a total of 220 blue wildebeests that were captured in Kgatleng were translocated to Khutse Game Reserve between September 6 and October 22, 2018.

Answering a question on Parliament on February 25 on behalf of the Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, Mr Kitso Mokaila, Ms Kenewendo stated that the ministry would consider replacing wildebeests with other wildlife species if they have a game ranch.

She further highlighted that the ministry was aware of plans to establish the Kgatleng conservation game farm, but no plans to develop it on behalf of the community.

MP for Mochudi East, Mr Moagi Molebatsi had asked the minister to state the number of wildebeests captured in the Kgatleng District and where they were relocated to.

Further, he wanted the minister to state if they would consider replacing them with diphofu, dikukama, ditshepe and also asked if the minister was aware of the proposed game farm in the Kgatleng District and what the ministry was doing to establish the farm. ENDS
